Damage / problem encountered:

I.PANTACHOS- A. VENTOURIS S.A. received an enquiry to perform several repairs related to the crankshaft pockets, balance shaft pockets & Νο.2 cylinder liner lower landing surface.

Our company quickly responded to the enquiry, discussed the job’s scope and repair procedures with the Company’s technical representative and was promptly awarded the job.

We immediately started the preparations and modifications needed to carry out the requested repairs, in our workshop facilities.

 

Rectification process followed:

  • Proper engine’s preparation, positioning on the horizontal boring in our Workshop facilities.
  • Νο.2 cylinder liner lower landing surface was machined from the standard Ø242 mm to approx. Ø 256 mm. Then honing was conducted to achieve 0.01mm accuracy and the least possible roughness  of the bore.
  • New cast iron bush was manufactured and shrink fitted with the aid of liquid nitrogen.
  • Set-up, alignment of our custom-engineered line boring equipment and line boring of 4 main bearing pockets to the standard diameter Ø 210,00 mm.
  • Set-up, alignment of our custom-engineered line boring equipment and line boring of 5 balance shaft pockets.
  • New cast iron bushes were manufactured and shrink fitted with the aid of liquid nitrogen with standard internal diameter Ø 165,00 mm.
  • Bore alignment checks were conducted to both main bearing and balance shaft pockets after line boring completion, and cylinder liner fitting in owner’s presence to confirm proper results.
